Gaby Hardwicke Solicitors - our History
Gaby Hardwicke Solicitors was founded in Hastings in 1889 by Dr Frederick Goodwin, and so in 2014 we celebrated 125 years of providing legal services.
To commemorate this milestone we’ve devoted this section of the website to the firm’s history. You can read about our nineteenth-century beginnings, our most memorable former partners, how we survived two world wars, along with reminiscences from employees of days gone by. We’ve also added potted histories of some of the firms we’ve merged with to honour their role in the local legal community.
In addition, we’ve trawled through the newspaper archives for 1889 and published details of what was happening in the local courts that year, along with other interesting items. You'll find links to these articles on our in this week in 1889 page.
As part of our celebrations, Gaby Hardwicke decided to get behind a special local cause. We elected to sponsor expert rowers Phil McCorry and Dan Renner, who in late 2014 rowed across the Atlantic Ocean to raise funds for St Mary's Special School & College in Bexhill. We've devoted a page to the Gaby Hardwicke Atlantic Challenge, which includes links to various news items about the rowers' epic endeavour.
