Gaby Hardwicke team in 827km dementia challenge

Next week members of Gaby Hardwicke’s Central Services team will walk, run, swim or cycle to a combined target of 827km to mark Dementia Action Week (21-27 May).

The volunteers will be taking part either at home, outdoors or in the gym over seven days. We chose 827km as our target as this is the distance from our Eastbourne head office to Marktbreit in Germany, the birthplace of Dr Alois Alzheimer, who discovered Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s is the most common type of dementia followed by vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies.

Our Dementia Action Week challenge is the latest initiative in support of our Local Cause of the Year: the Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings branches of the Dementia Action Alliance (DAA).

Keep an eye on our Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ accounts to check our team’s progress throughout the week.

Update: 26 May

Our team of challengers made it to Marktbreit (virtually speaking) with a day to spare on 26 May. Between them they covered 875km. Well done to all our contributors.
