St George’s Day 2016 saw more than 50 partners, staff and friends of Gaby Hardwicke take part in a charity abseil. The venue was the firm’s four-storey office block in The Avenue, Eastbourne, and abseilers briefly enjoyed commanding views of the town before taking the backwards plunge from the roof of the building. Leading the way was Sharon Garrod (pictured), followed in the course of the day by eight of the firm’s partners including Senior Partner David Young, who descended to the strains of ‘Happy Birthday’ sung below by family and friends.
The event was organised to raise funds for the firm’s charity, the Gaby Hardwicke Foundation. The foundation is a registered charity which is independent of the firm, though its trustees are retired former partners and the firm contributes to its funds. Its particular focus is in helping young people and the elderly in or around Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings, and it often steps in to fill the gap when social services cannot fund the urgent needs of vulnerable people.
Abseilers raised funds for the foundation through sponsorship, and generous donations were made by The Property Café and Breeze Associates. Cakes were donated by many members of Gaby Hardwicke, and although money is still being collected, it is hoped that the event will raise in the region of £1,000 for the foundation.
