Over the last few days our employment team have been inundated with enquiries from anxious employers, keen to better understand their legal obligations and options in light of the coronavirus crisis. As a result, Employment partner Paul Maynard has prepared a briefing note in which he has tried to cover the questions that have most frequently been asked as well as some options that employers may not have thought about – latest update (30 March)
We must, of course, emphasise that this is a rapidly developing situation and Government and NHS guidance (upon which parts of this Briefing Note are based) are subject to change at short notice. We will endeavour to update this briefing note with any significant further developments – including those arising from last night’s decision to close the schools and universities as well as the expected package of support for employers faced with having to lay off parts of their workforce. To be assured of being sent an updated version of this briefing note in due course, please can you email us with yours and the contact details of any of your colleagues who might find it of use.
As ever, the briefing note is intended to be a helpful guide but it is not a substitute for bespoke legal advice about your specific circumstances and, therefore, if you would like to discuss this, or any other related issue, please do not hesitate to Paul or a member of his employment team
