Jon’s amazing 24-hour endurance run

Recently, Gaby Hardwicke’s Jon Fielden pushed his body to the limit in a punishing 24-hour event at Tooting Bec running track, in London.

It was Jon’s second time in the Self Transcendence 24-Hour Track Challenge, an event he had vowed never to enter again. But with a steely determination to settle what he describes as ‘unfinished business’, Jon was back on the starting line on 17 September aiming to beat his previous distance of 95 miles. The objective was to get round the 400-metre track as many times as possible in 24 hours.

Jon covered 100 miles in 18 hours and nine minutes, a personal best over this distance by more than three and a half hours. The last few hours were very painful and by the end of 24 hours he had managed 115.93 miles.

Jon said: “It was a fantastic race with incredible camaraderie with the other runners, crew, volunteers and race organisers. I really enjoyed the experience, although it will be a little while before I go near a running track again.”
