New Appointments at Gaby Hardwicke

Gaby Hardwicke Solicitors are very pleased to announce a number of recent promotions and senior appointments that took effect on 1 April 2024 and which mark a positive step in the firm’s continuing growth and development.

Jeremy Laws has been appointed Managing Partner, taking over from David Getty who has retired after 28 years of dedicated service to the firm.

Jeremy joined Gaby Hardwicke in 2007 as Head of Commercial Disputes, where he specialised in all aspects of business litigation and dispute resolution.  He prided himself on working closely with our other commercial teams, adopting a practical and commercial approach to cases and doing his best to get clients the results they wanted.

Jeremy recently led a recent review of the firm’s workplace culture and is now implementing measures that are aimed at making Gaby Hardwicke a magnet for local talent.  In the coming years, his focus will be on improving the firm’s use of technology, training and skills and further improvements to the service the firm provides to its clients.

Commenting on his appointment, Jeremy said:

“I am both excited and tremendously honoured.  Under David Getty’s leadership, Gaby Hardwicke has modernised and grown to become one of the leading firms in Sussex – something recognised in our recent award as the South East’s Corporate Law Firm of the Year.

My primary aims as Managing Partner are to consolidate that position and to promote continuous improvement: in the services we offer, our delivery to clients and in how we reward and look after our staff.

Our sector has faced and continues to face challenges.  However, as a firm we are convinced there remains a place for high quality, lawyer-led legal services – both for individuals and businesses – and Gaby Hardwicke intends to be the turn to name in Sussex.”

Jonathan Midgley has been appointed Senior Partner following nearly 30 years with the firm. Throughout his career he has specialised in property and private client work and he now leads the firm’s thriving rural and agricultural practice.

Daniela Bushe has been appointed Partner and Team Manager of Commercial Litigation and Disputes. Daniela joined the firm in 2012 and has since been an integral part of the Dispute Resolution Team. Her promotion reflects the high quality of service and client care she consistently delivers and her commitment to the firm.

Alexandra Smith and David Cooper have both been promoted to Senior Associate Solicitors in the firm’s Private Client department, both specialising in wills, powers of attorney and probate.

These appointments signal Gaby Hardwicke’s commitment to leadership excellence, client-focused service and strategic growth in the Sussex legal landscape.
