Reflections on the presidential year

Jane Strickland wearing her chains of officeIn March 2016, Jane Strickland, Associate Solicitor at Gaby Hardwicke Solicitors, was elected President of the Hastings & District Law Society for a one-year term. Jane’s immediate predecessor as President was Gaby Hardwicke Partner Debra Frazer.

Jane’s election follows a long tradition of Gaby Hardwicke solicitors being involved in local law societies. As well as Jane and Debra’s presidencies, Mark Williams is a Past President of the Eastbourne Law Society, Christopher Bean is a committee member and Past President of the Eastbourne Law Society and former Partner Bryan Sagar is a Past President of the Hastings & District Law Society. In addition, one of Gaby Hardwicke’s early partners, Ralph Gaby, was a founder-member of the Hastings & District Law Society and its first Honorary Secretary.

Reflecting on her year as President, Jane said: “To be appointed President was a huge honour, and I felt very proud as I was handed the chain of office to wear. As part of the role I attended conferences and meetings in London, Birmingham, Brighton and elsewhere, representing local solicitors who are fellow members of the Hastings & District Law Society.

“The Sussex Law Society dinner at the Grand in Brighton and the Hastings & District Law Society’s two annual events were particularly enjoyable. However, the absolute highlight of the year was when I attended a parliamentary reception to mark the centenary of the premiership of David Lloyd George in early December at the House of Lords. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my year in office and have met some lovely people along the way.”

Jane is shortly embarking on a new role within the firm, specialising in residential leasehold properties.  For expert legal advice please contact her at or 01424 735000.
